Obituary of Andrea Jordan Cook

Andrea Jordan Cook, age 18, of Mount Vernon, left her earthly home in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 21, 2015 and found herself dancing in the arms of her Heavenly Father. Andrea was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas on September 4, 1996 to Tracy Shane Cook and Brenda Gail Byars Hammond. Andrea was an active and popular senior at Mount Vernon High School where she was greatly anticipating her next steps in life. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Andrea was a blonde haired, blue eyed young adult who was just about to begin her life after high school. She was still very much a child at heart who loved to dance, spend time with her family on “game night” where her favorite game was twister, and as any kid would, she cherished her friends and the time she spent with them. Andrea had a special knack and ability to always win the friendly competition between friends and family when getting to together to play “Just Dance”. Andrea was a talented artist and particularly enjoyed sketching and crafting. Her first pet was her treasured dog, Daisy, who just died about a month ago. She also had an affinity for horses, especially her beloved “Charlie” with whom she is now riding the pastures of Heaven with Daisy at their side, basking in the glory of being reunited with Andrea. Many will remember Andrea’s sweet smile and helpful service from her job at McDonald’s, but those who knew Andrea best will always remember the once baby girl with pig-tails, crawling on her parent’s floor to the sweet little girl who loved sleep-overs with her friends and sharing strawberry banana pancakes at IHOP with her daddy to the now free-spirited, life loving, beautiful young woman who was taken from her beloved family and many friends far too soon. Andrea is survived by her mother and step-father, Brenda and Jay Hammond, of Mount Vernon; father, Shane Cook of Cooper; one brother, Alex Cook; one sister, Jayda Hammond; grandparents, James Byars of Winnsboro, Florence Byars of Mount Vernon, Jesse and Rose Polo, of Mount Vernon, Hilda Cook of Leesburg, and Jerry and Linda Hammond, of Mount Vernon; great-grandfather Bo Wafford, of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by six aunts and uncles, twelve cousins, and by a host of other relatives and many, many very special friends. Andrea was preceded in death by her Paw Paw, Robert Cook; Granny, Minnie Wafford; and by one cousin, Elijah Reid. Funeral services for Andrea Jordan Cook will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 31 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon with Richard Rutledge officiating. A memory box and site of remembrance will be placed at Greenwood Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M., Monday evening at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.
