Wilda Scott

Obituary of Wilda Mullinax Scott

Wilda Mullinax Scott, age 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away in the early evening hours of Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, with her beloved family by her side.  Wilda was born on January 25, 1925 in Ben Franklin, Delta County, Texas to the late John Lloyd and Martha Frances Harris Mullinax.

Wilda grew up in Winnsboro and graduated from Winnsboro High School. She married Rex Edward Scott on January 19, 1944 in Mount Vernon by Brother John Whitt. Together they spent the next 47 years as part of the “greatest generation”.  Rex and Wilda raised a family and lived a lifetime of memories.  He preceded her in death on April 21, 1991.

Wilda was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon where she taught the Beginners Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and she sang in the choir. She was a lady of many talents – even learning how to fly an airplane, and taking her Taylorcraft solo flight.  Wilda was a skilled seamstress who would make clothes for her children and recover furniture.  In the mid 1960’s, Wilda went to work as a book keeper for the family business, Tom Scott Lumber Yard.  Eventually Wilda became “the paint lady” – even before computers Wilda could mix and match paint to perfection. Wilda was a talented artist in her own right who enjoyed painting with oils and water colors, taking care of her yard and beautiful flower garden. In 2009, Wilda was inducted into the Mount Vernon Hall of Fame.  She also served on the Franklin County Library Board.  Those who knew Wilda best will always remember her as a loving wife, mother, Memaw and friend. She was a blessing to those who knew her and her beautiful smile.

Wilda is survived by three children, Larry Scott, and wife Yvonne, Sue Barker, and husband Ronny, and Linda Billings, and husband Larry; grandchildren, Dr. Karen Barker McClard, and husband Matt, Allison Barker, Jay Scott, and wife Kristen, Emily Billings, Robin Billings, Brittany Puryear, and husband Andrew, and April Faulkner, and husband Eric; great-grandchildren, Hayden McClard, Olivia Scott, Lucille McClard, Gable Scott, Lilly Puryear, Annalisa Faulkner, Nolan Puryear, and Sloan Scott; by one brother, J.T. Mullinax of Winnsboro; and by a host of nieces, a nephew, and other relatives and very special friends.

Wilda was also preceded in death by one grandson, Cole Scott Barker.

Funeral services for Wilda Mullinax Scott will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon with Dr. Pete Freeman and Rev.
