Obituary of Evelyn Stroud

Evelyn Stroud “MeMaw”, age 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away in the late morning hours of Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.  Evelyn was born on March 5, 1930 in Lonoke County, Arkansas to the late Patrick and Sally Wright Colvin – the oldest of their 3 children.

Evelyn married the love of her life and her best friend, Luther Stroud on July 15, 1947.  Together they raised 8 children and lived a lifetime of memories until his untimely passing in 1969.

Evelyn attended Meadow Park Baptist Church but as her hearing started to fade she began watching the Sunday morning church service of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.  She was a longtime resident of Mount Vernon and a devout believer in Christ.  Evelyn was the owner of several restaurants including the “Country Boy Café” and “Charity’s Café”.  MeMaw was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was loved by many.

Evelyn is survived by children, James Stroud, and Chunky, Mississippi, Charity Cochran, and husband Andy, of Pittsburg, Susan Stroud, and husband Mike, of Laughlin, Nevada, Robert Stroud, and wife Angie, of Golden, Texas, Melinda Stroud of Gautier, Mississippi, and Tommy Stroud, and wife Gayle, of Paris, Texas; by one sister, Betty Hogan of Arkansas; by 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Simons, one son, Ralph Stroud, and one brother, Charles Colvin.

Funeral services for Ms. Stroud will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Pastor Cody Rushing officiating.  Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery with William Armstrong, Brandon Bynum, Ryan Rigney, Max Simons, Brad Simpson, and Luke Stroud serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Saturday evening, at the funeral home.
