Obituary of Mary Jo Solomon

Mary Jo Solomon, age 73, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 23, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.  Mary Jo was born on February 10, 1944 in Overton, Texas to the late Chat and Loraine Bowie Burnett.  On August 19, 1962 Mary Jo married the love of her life and her best friend, Cecil Lynn Solomon.  Together they have spent the last 55 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories.

Mary Jo was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon where she was a member of the Fellowship Class.  Those who remember Mary Jo before her illness, will remember her as a devoted wife and mother and a woman of class and dignity.  Mary Jo was a good cook and homemaker and it always seemed that no matter what she put her mind to doing she did it well.  She spent time as the manager of Cecil’s law office and various other endeavors including painting, fishing and many other crafting projects.  Mary Jo will always be remembered for the love she had for her Lord, her husband, her children and grandchildren.

Mary Jo is survived by her beloved husband, Cecil, of Mount Vernon; two children, Abbie Solomon Hawkins and Cecil Lynn Solomon, Jr., and wife Tesha, all of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren, Laney Hawkins, Sarah Hawkins, and Jamie Hawkins; by sisters, Ginger Rhoades and Linda Trantham, both of Mount Vernon; and by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very special friends.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Burnett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating.  Burial will follow at Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Matt Sergeant, Max Cole, Wes Stansy, and B.J. York serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
