Obituary of Ray T. Kerr

Ray T. Kerr, 69, of Mount Vernon passed away on March 22, 2018 in Mount Pleasant.  He was born on December 13, 1948 in Tom, OK.  Mr. Kerr was a member of the Purley Baptist Church.  He was a Founder of the Purley Volunteer Fire Dept.  He enjoyed reading, having conversations, and spending time with the grandchildren at their activities.

Mr. Kerr is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lourena Kerr; sister, Ramona McBride; half- sister, Edith Habermann.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gail Kerr; son, Jason Kerr and wife Brandy of Teague, TX; daughter, Amber Hughes and husband Chris of Mount Vernon, TX; grandchildren, Kristen Hughes, Kody Hughes and Kathryn Kerr; brothers, Terry Troy and wife Renata of VA, Jerry Troy and wife Debbie of San Antonio, TX and Curtis Troy and wife Brenda of VA, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 6 – 8 PM at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.  Funeral service will be Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Blackstone and Bro. Joe Kuhl officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Maxton, Mike Overstreet, Billy Paul Douglas, Dan Stanley, Kevin Spence and Waymon Newsome.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Liberty Cemetery Association.
