Clovis Mills

Obituary of Clovis Martin Mills

Clovis Martin Mills, age 74, of Saltillo, Texas, was taken up to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home.  He was born on May 12, 1943 in Cumby, Texas, to the late Ibra Martin Mills and Opal Lorene Hinkle Mills.  He was a retired dairyman and farmer; he was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Mills married the love of his life, Judy Carroll Moreland, on September 27, 1963.  They shared 51 years of a beautiful life together. She preceded him in death in 2015.

Clovis owned and operated a farm and dairy, with the help of his wife, for forty years.  Most of the time, you could find him milking cows, baling hay, shredding, building fences and everything in between to ensure a successful business.  Clovis dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He went above and beyond to provide for them, protect them, and give them guidance and support.  He was a friend to many.   Clovis had a great sense of humor and always brought a smile to anyone he met.  He loved the Lord and enjoyed watching his favorite pastor, Pastor Arnold Murray, preach God’s word.  Outdoors was his favorite place to be.  He spent many hours sitting on his front porch in his favorite rocking chair; sharing stories and memories with family and friends.  Clovis always said he had a perfect view from that front porch;  green pastures, trees, beautiful sky, the sun and the moon, wild animals, and a country road.

Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Marlanea Vicks and husband Ricky of Mount Vernon, Texas; and Shawna Blackburn and husband Loren of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Yancy Mills of Saltillo, Texas; eight grandchildren Landon Lane and wife Carolyn of Rockwall, Texas; Dayton Lane of Mount Vernon, Texas; Dillon Lane, United States Marine Corps; Alexander Blackburn of San Antonio, Texas; Easton Blackburn of San Antonio, Texas; Colby Mills and wife Sara of Sulphur Springs, Texas; Breanna Yager of Sulphur Springs, Texas; Brennan Mills of Harmony, Texas; great-grandchild, Brex Yager; one sister, Wilma Fouse and husband Arthur of Paris, Texas; one brother, I.M. Mills of Saltillo, Texas.

Mr. Mills is preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Jo Slaton, Helen Webb, Lou Nell Hodges, and Mary Allen Morgan; and three brothers, Jackie Mills, Johnny Mills and Gene Mills.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Sam Harvey Funeral Home followed by his service at 2 p.m. with Loren Blackburn officiating. Serving as pall bearers will be Landon Lane, Dayton Lane, John Talley, Larry Thompson, Gary McKinnon and Colby Mills.
