Obituary of David M. Chaney

David Michael Chaney, Sr.

David was born February 25, 1940, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Robert Lyle Chaney and Norma Jean (White) Chaney.  Upon graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy.  After the Navy, David married Charlotte Jane Emig in 1962, and began a career in law enforcement as both a State Highway Patrolman and a Deputy Sheriff.

David left law enforcement to work for AEP and, in 1975, relocated to Texas and began working for TU Electric until his retirement in 1999.  During his time with TU Electric (almost exclusively at the Winfield North site), he made many friends and continued those friendships until his death.  He also worked diligently during his tenure with TU Electric (in his personal time) promoting projects for a safe and secure work environment for his coworkers.

Upon retirement, David devoted his time and energy to the Community Food Bank of Franklin County.  He had a particular compassion for people struggling in their daily lives.  He was a selfless servant – never judgmental – seeing to and caring for those who were in need.

David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas.

He was taken to CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Heart Hospital in Tyler on April 16, 2018, and left this earth on April 17, 2018, to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  David is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and his children, Suzanne, David, Jr. and Margaret as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Daniel Joseph Chaney.

Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon TX.
