Obituary of Peggy Sue Clifton Bartlett

In the early hours of June 10, 2018 Peggy Sue Clifton Bartlett, age 83, went to be with her parents and sisters in heaven.

Peggy leaves behind two daughters, Dianna Holliefield and Sharon Ward, both of Garland, a grandson, Clifton Holliefield, his wife Kelli and their three children, Eli, Noah and Kai of Little Elm, a granddaughter Kacie Holliefield and her daughter Elizabeth of Garland, a granddaughter, Sacha Heflin and husband Rob and their two children Sofia and Keagan of Bury St. Edmonds, UK. She was also survived by her niece LaVonne Copeland, her husband Rad and son Clint of Sulphur Bluff, a great nephew Christopher Schroeder of Longview, and longtime friend, RM Harper of Mt. Vernon.

The middle of three sisters, Peggy was born December 5,1934 to Loy and Ima Clifton. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Vivian Lester and Sybil Clifton and husband of 34 years Johnny Bartlett. She attended school in Hagansport and Mt. Vernon. After attending Mt. Vernon High School, she married JC Ward of Sulphur Bluff and had her two daughters. Their marriage came to a close and they each remarried, Peggy to Johnny Bartlett.

During her second marriage she lived in Garland, Hammond, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. Entering retirement she and her husband moved back to their property near the place she grew up in the Mt. Vernon area to raise cattle. She continued raising cattle for many years after her second husband’s death.

As a young woman Peggy worked in assembly at a glove factory, a mattress factory and an electronics factory while raising a family.

She had a relentless spirit and put her all into anything she started. In her retirement she began the hobby of designing and making jewelry and took a computer course at the local library.

Peggy will be remembered best as an outspoken, kind-hearted, generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed dearly.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 9 – 10 am.  Funeral service will follow visitation at 10:00 am at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Hood officiating.  Interment will follow at Colliers Chapel Cemetery.
