Obituary of Patsy Sam Wims

Patsy Sam (Evans) Wims, of Mount Vernon, Franklin County, Texas was born Monday, May 25, 1936 to John Sam Evans and Frances Gypsy (Nelson) Evans in Peerless, Hopkins County, Texas.  She died Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.  Pat will be laid to rest on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.  Pallbearers are David Wims, Mark Wims, Tim Wims, Skip McGrady, Michael Wims, Jeremy McGrady, Ethan Wims and Jerry Moore.  Honorary pallbearers are Jimmie Evans, Jared Wims, Cody Parnell and Fallon Wims.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George Richard Wims, her parents, a brother, James Daniel Evans (1937), a grandson, Justin Wilkin Wims (2014), and a great-granddaughter, Sydney Paige Ballard (2001).  She is survived by four children and their spouses, David Wayne Wims of Maryville, Tennessee, John Mark and Paula (Rader) Wims of Idalou, Texas, Richard Timothy and Teresia (Boyd) Wims of Mount Vernon, Texas, and Susan Marie (Wims) and R.W. (Skip) McGrady of Stafford, Texas, and 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother and his spouse, Jimmie Dee and Margaret Evans of Fort Worth, Texas, two nieces, Melissa Evans Lang of Dallas, Texas, Victoria des Rosier of Fort Worth, Texas and two great nephews and one great niece.

Pat grew up in Fort Worth, Texas.  She met the love of her life, George, on a blind date while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Fort Worth.  They were married on September 14, 1952 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon following the Sunday morning service.  Following her husband’s work led them to Arizona, California and Louisiana before returning to Houston, Texas for 20 years.  After retiring in 1986 they returned to Mount Vernon. 

Pat was an accomplished seamstress and combined her love of sewing with her work life by working at various fabric stores through the years.  She was also an avid crafter and excelled at many different forms of needlework and hobbies.  Pat was active in the Franklin County Genealogical Society and previously served as its Historian. 

Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
