Obituary of Mary Jo Holmes

Mary Jo Holmes, 84, of Mt. Vernon, TX gained her wings and went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2019.  She was born on August 3, 1934 in Franklin County, TX to the late Albert T. Edwards and Pauline Edwards.  She was a very devout Christian who loved her family, church and Lord and Savior.  Her favorite past times were playing cards with her sisters.  She enjoyed taking care of kids and spent time working in the daycare at First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Don” Donald Holmes; two sisters, Martha Cates and Edna Hunnicutt.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Flowers of Mesquite, TX; grandson, Derek Flowers of Edmond, OK; brother, Harold Edwards and wife Ann of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Barbara Alford and husband Jim of Mt. Vernon, Shirley Moore and husband Danny of Garland, TX and Linda Sansom of Frisco, TX; sisters in law, Mary Nell Tinsley and husband Morris Jr. of Mt. Vernon and Jane Holmes of Talco, TX; several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.  Funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.  Interment will follow service at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
