Obituary of Alvin Joseph Dawson

Alvin Joseph Dawson, 95, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2019 in Denton, Texas and was buried in a private ceremony - with military honors - next to his wife Louise at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Alvin was born June 3, 1923 near Sulphur Bluff, Texas to John and Josie Dawson. He was married to the love of his life, the late Louise Bowman Dawson on August 18, 1951.  They moved to Ft. Worth immediately after their marriage.

Prior to their marriage, Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1941 during World War II as an Aviation Mechanic just days after Pearl Harbor.   He was stationed in Egypt during the North African Campaign, and India and China during the China Burma India Theater and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Over the next few decades he enjoyed many careers, but aviation mechanics was his specialty-retiring in the early 1980s from Aerospatiale.    He was a consummate rancher and loved raising cattle and just working on the farm.

While a member of Fostepco Heights Baptist Church, he was a deacon and was active in the Royal Ambassadors program and also taught Sunday School.  His love of children was witnessed by over 30 years of volunteer work with the Longhorn Council scouting organization where he held many leadership positions and received numerous awards for his love of the Scouting program and helping young people.  He was an active volunteer in the early Fort Worth Stock Show organization helping build the exhibit areas and was a supporter of the Western Hills High School marching band in Fort Worth and a volunteer at South Davis Elementary School in Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, an older sister (Mildred) and a younger brother (Johnny Lee II).

He is survived by 2 sons:  Jerry Dawson and wife Margaret; Dr. John Dawson and wife Dianne;                         8 grandchildren (Jennifer, Micah, Travis, Jeremy, Macy, Traci, Daniel, and Matthew);                                  10 great-grandchildren; sister Bertha Louise; sister-in-law Carol Dawson; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
