Obituary of Max A Rutledge

Max A. Rutledge, age 90, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on September 24, 2019, in Winnsboro, Texas.  He was born on March 16, 1929, in the community of Hopewell, Texas to the late W.D. and Alma Jewel Rutledge. He and his wife were married on December 6, 1947, in Mount Vernon and would go on to operating the families cattle ranch. On December 8, 2016, Max and Joy were presented with a certificate from the Family Land Heritage Program, presented by Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller, to honor the family for keeping their farm in continuous agricultural production for more than 100 years.  

Mr. Rutledge was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon and served as a Mason for the Masonic Lodge #691, Mount Vernon. Max retired from American Petrofina Oil Company, Mount Pleasant, Texas after thirty-two years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Joe Rutledge and sister, Wanda Gean Rutledge.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Joy Rutledge; sons, Randy Rutledge and wife Cheryl of Dallas, Texas; Jeffery Rutledge and wife Larissa of Mount Vernon, Texas; daughter, Saundra Dunn and husband Charles of Mount Vernon, Texas; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; brother in law, Charles Jones and many friends and relatives.  He will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, Mount Vernon. 

Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. officiated by Bro. Pepper Puryear.  Interment will follow at Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
